AVIS RENT A CAR TOLL 866-2856265

The first posting dated 2/27/2017 is correct but I got a "Rent A Car Tolls" charge of $19.80 on my visa bill. I called (866)285-6265 and spoke to HTA customer svc. This is what I was told. In your rental car there is a toll transponder on the rear view mirror. I was charged $3.95 PER DAY for 4 days $15.80 plus the toll fee of $4.00 a total of $19.80. The rental agent should tell you there is a transponder in your rental car and will be CHARGED PER DAY for the transponder. But you can decline and tell the rental agent you will pay the tolls yourself and turn OFF the transponder (you will have to ask the rental agent how to turn it off). If you were charged on your visa bill toll fees and paid your tolls with cash you will NEED A RECEIPT (KEEP the TOLL RECEIPTS for 8 weeks) proof that you paid the toll and send a copy of your receipt to the Highway Toll Administration (HTA) website htallc.com to receive credit, but you will still pay for the the per day transponder charges. Call HTA customer svc and get a car rental conformation numbers from HTA before you email your toll receipts and your explanation to them.

This number is from Highway Toll Administration. HTA is a service that many rental car companies use now to ensure their car renters pay "violations" such as tolls, etc. I rented from Fox Car Rental and received a letter from HTA and called Fox to make sure it was legit and Fox informed me that yes, they in fact do use Highway Toll Administration to file with renters who have toll charges, etc. They didn't call me, but sent me a letter in the mail and the letter had this same phone number attached to it.
