I believed I had a fraudulent charge on my account, but it turns out the charge was for a moleskine notebook that I had ordered. The charge that appeared on my account said:
07/25/2014 RECURRING DEBIT CARD XXXXXxxxx ADYEvernote XXXXX0885 CA $31.94
I was alarmed because it said "recurring," I don't have an account ending in xxxx, and my recurring Evernote charges are always in the amount of $5.00. Those charges show my actual credit card number when they appear on my statement. I also found it suspicious that the phone number was mostly blocked so I could not call to find out what the charge was for.
In addition, I contacted Evernote, and they did not know anything about the charge.
I called the bank and was given the phone number 650-257-0885. When I called the number. I was directed to a voice mail message that identified the company as Evernote, and requested I leave information such as my name and credit card number. This message was not reassuring.
Convinced I had a clear case of fraud, I started collecting all phone records, email correspondence, and account settings. When I looked up my account settings, I noticed a section called "order history." That is where I found the reference to the charge.
I did not believe I was ordering that notebook from Evernote when I purchased it. I expected to see a charge from Moleskine, instead. I hope my experience is helpful.
